"We have given consent to the proposal of the OSOU to open a centre in our university," Cluster university vice-chancellor Manmath Padhy said today.
Initially, the open university is likely to offer 50 seats in the open learning mode from this year, he said.
The Khallikote Autonomous College, one of the constituent colleges of the Cluster University, and Berhampur University have introduced the BEd course this year in self-finance mode.
While both the instituions sought 100 seats each for the course, the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) allowed 50 seats to each of them.
"We have decided to introduce the course for the in-service teachers, who don't get facilities to do the BEd in regular mode," said Bhagabat Patra, Director, distance education centre of the university.
The BEd is much in demand in the state, but a few institutes offer the curse. Several students in southern Odisha have been forced to go to neighboring Andhra University to do the course.
