CM approves centre in Karnal to assist women hit by violence

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has approved the setting up of 'One Stop Centre' (OSC) in Karnal to provide integrated support and assistance to women affected by violence, both in private and public spaces.
A sum of over Rs 58.87 lakh will be spent on the construction of this Centre which would be set up over 300 sqm area at Mahila Ashram Complex, just half a km away from Kalpana Chawla Medical College at Karnal, an official spokesman said today.
The central government will provide 100 per cent financial assistance to the state government under the Scheme whereas the day-to-day implementation and administrative matters would be the responsibility of the state.
He said that the One Stop Centre is intended to support women affected by violence, in private and public spaces, within the family, community and at the workplace.
Women facing physical, sexual, emotional, psychological and economic abuse, irrespective of age, class, caste, education status, marital status, race and culture will be facilitated with support and redressal.
Aggrieved women facing any kind of violence due to attempted sexual harassment, sexual assault, domestic violence, trafficking, honour related crimes, acid attacks who have reached out or been referred to the OSC will be provided with specialised services, the spokesman said.
He said that this Centre will be integrated with a Women Helpline to provide a range of services including medical assistance like referral to hospital and if required, provide ambulance.
It will also provide police assistance like facilitating or assisting in filing FIR, psycho-social support or counselling, legal aid or counselling, shelter and video conferencing facility, the spokesman added.
