In a statement here, the chief minister said that though dates of union elections has not been announced, poster, banners and hoardings have already been put up.
Directing to check such activities strictly, the Chief Minister said that local administration, university and college should ensure that such activities do not continue in the name of union elections.
After coming to power, the SP government decided to restore student unions and an order to conduct elections as per the recommendations of Lyngdoh committee was issued in March.
Lyngdoh committee had recommended that printed material should not be used in union elections and fixed Rs 5,000 as the maximum limit for expenditure by any candidate.
It recommended that only those students, who do not have any criminal record or against whom no disciplinary action was taken by the institution, would be eligible to contest elections.
