Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today asked legislators to work for balanced development of the entire state, and not just the area from where they had been elected.
Addressing a public meeting, he said that during his six tenures as the chief minister, he had always focused on uniform and balanced development of the state.
He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating a marketing sub-yard project in Anu in Jubbal area of Shimla and laying the foundation of the phase-II of the project to be constructed at a cost of Rs 2.85 crore.
"No matter from whichever corner of the state we have been elected, the priority of elected representatives should be to ensure equitable development of all areas," the chief minister said, claiming that Himachal Pradesh was today the most developed state of the country.
When Himachal Pradesh was formed, there were hardly 280 kilometres of road in the state, but as of today there the road network is of 37,000 kilometres, connecting all villages and far flung areas.
The chief minister said that constructed at a cost of Rs 2.50 crore, this marketing yard would benefit farmers of 18 panchayat areas.
There was a need for such marketing yards within the state so that the farmers could get a better price for their produce at their doorsteps and not fall in the trap of "middlemen", he said.
At the meeting, Agriculture Minister Sujan Singh Pathania criticised the NDA government at the Centre for increasing diesel and petrol prices.
