"This is an unfortunate incident. We will have to implement laid down norms. I would request people and institution to abide by the rules," Dikshit said when asked about the incident.
Jaskiran Chawla, a class-X student at Punjabi Bagh's Hansraj Model School, died yesterday when he was trying to buy an ice cream from a roadside vendor while being in the bus.
"The transport department was looking into the incident to find out what was wrong and how the incident had happened," Dikshit said.
Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely has already asked the Education and Transport Departments to probe the incident and file a report soon.
The Supreme Court had set specific guidelines for plying of school buses which included fitting of horizontal grills on windows of the vehicles.
As per the guidelines all such vehicles must have a first-aid box and the doors of the bus should be fitted with reliable locks. There must be an attendant from the school in the bus.
