"Reservation is the right which has been given to the backward classes by the Constitution of India," leader of opposition in the assembly, Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil said.
"Tilak's comment that children belonging to Brahmin families had to go abroad because of the lack of opportunities in India due to the reservation system is against the spirit of the Constitution," he said.
"BJP used the reservation card for Dhangars and Marathas in the last Assembly election. If it (BJP government) is sincere about reservations, it should seek Tilak's resignation," said Vikhe-Patil.
Tilak had kicked up a political row last week after she said children belonging to the Brahmin family were leaving India and looking for opportunities abroad because of the reservation policy here.
Tilak had later clarified that she was misquoted on the issue.
