CM felicitates doctor, constitutes award for selfless service

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced to launch Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das Award for dedicated selfless service in the health sector.
Patnaik also felicitated Dr Omkar Hota for helping needy people in Malkangiri district.
"Today, we honour Dr Omkar Hota for his exemplary commitment in walking the extra mile in bringing health care to some of the remote villages in Malkangiri district," Patnaik said while felicitating the young doctor with citation.
Stating that Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das is the symbol of sacrifice and selfless service, Patnaik said in his memory Utakalmani Gopabandhu Das Award will be awarded in the health sector from his year.
While praising Dr Hota for his dedicated service, Patnaik said:" I am sure there are many doctors, para-medical staff, individuals and organisations in various corner of the state running extra mile in providing selfless health care."
Dr Hota, who has been working as the in-charge medical officer at the new public health centre (PHC) in Papulur village of Malkangiri district, recently came to the limelight after he carrying the patient on shoulder become viral in social media.

Dr Hota on October 31 took an arduous 10 km journey on foot from Sarigeta village in Malkangiri district shouldering a woman who had just delivered a baby and was bleeding profusely.
The 31-year-old doctor put the woman, Subham Marse, on a cot and walked along with her husband for three hours through the inhospitable terrains of Chitrakonda block to reach the nearest public health centre (PHC) at Papulur.
The woman and the child survived.
