CM for long-term perspective in infra development in Meghalaya

Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma has said the Centre should have a long term perspective in rebuilding the infrastructure in the state, where properties worth several hundred crores of rupees was damaged in September 24 flash floods.
The need to have a long term perspective in developing infrastructure is required from the Centre keeping in mind the devastating earthquake of 1897, Sangma told central government officials who met him during their two-day visit to the flood-hit areas in Garo Hills last evening, an official release said.
The Central team comprised officials from various ministries like Home, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Power, Road Transport and Highways, Rural Development, Finance and Health.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister said that since the scale of challenge of September flash flood was huge, it had been a tough task to attend to the affected families.
Meghalaya had faced the wrath of flash floods and landslide on September 24 where in 64 people were killed and over 1,600 villages were affected.
The state government has also sought Rs 3,072 crore financial aid from the Centre for restoration of key damaged infrastructure and for providing ex-gratia payment of Rs two lakh to the bereaved families.
