After the success of 'Amma' Canteens serving breakfast and lunch at subsidsed price, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa today launched yet another pro-poor scheme - Farm Fresh Consumer Outlets across the city.
Jayalalithaa launched 31 such outlets, which will sell vegetables at subsidised rates, through video conferencing from the Secretariat, to give relief from soaring vegetable prices.
State-run TUCS would operate the outlets.
Noting that vegetables would be sourced from purchase centres/cooperative societies directly, an official release said payment would be made available to farmers avoiding middlemen.
"Since vegetables are purchased from the farmers on the same day itself, people will have the benefit on purchasing them at subsidised rates", it said.
At another function, Jayalalithaa inaugurated a Rs 1.33 crore memorial arch to commemmorate Tamil Nadu assembly's diamond jubilee.
The inauguration of the Arch follows the 60th anniversary celebrations of the assembly last year, presided by President Pranab Mukherjee. The assembly was built in 1952.
