CM lays foundation stone of engineering college at Kotla

Himachal Pradesh Minister Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today laid the foundation stone ofRs 118.50 crore Mahatma Gandhi Engineering College at Kotla in Jeori areaof the district.
Singh said the college would benefit youth of the area and also of nearby areas ofReckong-Peo and Pooh in Kinnaur district.
The college complex would have an administrative block, lecture theatre, civil and mechanical engineering blocks, workshop, applied sciences block, library and computer centre besides the residential block having hostel facilities for over 400 boys and girls.
The college is already functional and the classes are being held in Sundernagar for the time being.
The Chief minister also inaugurated Rs 11.50 crore sewage system for Jhakri, which will cover three habitations having population of 1130 people.
Addressing a public meeting at Jeori, Singh said his government was ensuring overall and balanced development of the state and most of the development work had taken place under successive Congress governments.

He said there were 18,500 government schools, 94 Degree colleges, 34,000 kilometres of roads, close network of irrigation and drinking water schemes, hydel projects, vast chain of health institutions, which shows the development milestones achieved by the state.
The State government has abolished Jagirdari System, made 'Mujaras'(occupancy tenants) owner of the land and implemented various schemes for the welfare of the people, Singh said and alleged that the BJP only indulged in divisive tactics to divide the people on the basis of religion and region.
Asserting that the political parties ruling the nation do not have any religion and Congress' only religion was "welfare of the people", he said, it was sad to say that there was tension among people of particular religion in the country.
Taking a jibe at the BJP for selling the dream of'Achhe Din' to people, Singh said that the Bihar elections made BJP to bite the dust and their 'Bure Din' (Bad days) have started, adding that thepeople of the country can't be befooled in the name of 'Ache Din' anymore.
Transport and Technical Education minister, G S Bali said the government had opened three new engineering colleges and five Polytechnic institutes besides over a dozen Industrial Training Institutes, and the area would have an engineering college, for which a provision of Rs 12 crore had already been made initially.
