"Speedy investigation will not only ensure quick justice to the victims but also act as a deterrent against those involved in crimes against women," the Chief Minister said in a statement here.
The statement comes in the wake of the recent rape of a primary schoolteacher at Dalgaon in Darramg district and the assault on a woman in public by an irate mob after the mother of a man, against whom she had filed a case of alleged molestation, died in Golaghat district.
The Chief Minister reviewed suggestions made by the task force set up earlier to prevent and control crimes against women.
He also suggested setting up of crisis intervention centres comprising representatives of police, doctors, advocates and NGOs to act as a support system for the victims and help them get quick justice.
Gogoi had recently directed the state Home Department to chalk out a plan to prevent and control crimes against women in the state.
He had also asked the department to formulate a rehabilitation policy under which the victims of such crimes can be supported financially as well as emotionally.
