Breaking away from tradition, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu today submitted a 'memorandum' to the people on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
When the Itanagar Market Welfare Association (IMWA) handed Khandu a memorandum with several requests, he responded by submitting his version of a 'memorandum' - requesting the people to keep their city clean and plastic-free.
"I humbly submit a memorandum requesting the business community and the citizens to shun using plastics and help the government keep cities and the environment clean," he urged and gave a clarion call for 'Clean Arunachal, Green Arunachal' while joining the cleanliness drives across the state capital from Nirjuli to Itanagar.
Wishing the people on Gandhi Jayanti, which is being celebrated across India as the Swatch Bharat Diwas, Khandu encouraged everybody to continue with the same spirit of keeping their respective premises clean.
He lauded the initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that aims to create a 'Clean India' by 2019 that would commemorate with the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Besides, the initiative also aims to achieve a 100 per cent defecation-free India by 2019.

Khandu assured full support of the state government to achieve the target.
Citing media reports dubbing Itanagar as the third dirtiest city in the country, Khandu said it is a matter of shame for the citizens.
"It is rather a dubious distinction if it is true. Even if it is not true, it is our duty to keep our city clean and let this day be a purposeful beginning," he said, while informing that Rs 1 lakh has been disbursed to each Assembly Constituency in the state to launch the cleanliness campaign in an inclusive manner.
The Chief Minister assured that the Itanagar Municipal Council that manages garbage in the city would be strengthened with men and machine to improve its efficiency in disposal of garbage.
He, however, pointed that the government alone cannot manage garbage and keep the city clean and appealed citizens to join hands in the endeavour.
"It should be a 'Jan Andolan' (people's movement)," he asserted.
