CMC identifies 757 ineligible NFSA beneficiaries
Press Trust of India Cuttack The Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC), which has the dubious distinction of its mayor losing her job for securing a ration card under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), has upped its ante to identify ineligible beneficiaries seeking subsidised food grains.
The civic body has written to the district collector today to register FIR against as many as 14 persons for allegedly violating prescribed norms with ill intentions to misappropriate public money.
While three of these were school teachers, two were Anganwadi workers, one was a bank employee, while another was a station master of OSRTC.
The civic body too has identified as many as 757 such beneficiaries, whose names appear in the ration card list, but they were visibly rich and come under 'exclusion criteria.'
"Among these, 514 have volunteered to surrender their cards and the remaining 243 are found to have violated the norms to obtain the cards illegally," said CMC Commissioner Gyana Das.
