"Congratulations to Sri Venkaiah Naidu Ji for being elected as the country's 13th Vice President," Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah tweeted from his official handle.
On his Facebook page, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan congratulated Naidu and said, "Wishing him that he will be able to uphold secular and democratic values."
People in Naidu's native village Chavatapalem in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh held grand celebrations on his victory.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and his son and cabinet minister Nara Lokesh too extended their greetings to the newly-elected VP.

Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Assembly Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy said it was a proud moment to see a Telugu man as the chairman of the upper house of Parliament.
"Our party is always in favor of unanimous election to the high offices of President, Vice President and Speaker posts," Reddy said on his official Facebook page.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao said Naidu would bring laurels to the post of the vice-president.
DMK Working President and Leader of Opposition in Tamil Nadu Assembly M K Stalin tweeted, "With vast experience in parliamentary procedures, I am quite confident that he (Naidu) will protect the plurality of our great nation."
The ruling parties of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu had pledged their support to Naidu in the election.
