Four battalions of the Assam Regiment, including two of the Arunachal Scouts, were today presented the colours by the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Dalbir Singh here during the Regiment' Platinum jubilee anniversary celebration.
Singh, who also dedicated the expanded and renovated War Memorial to the Regiment, lauded the contribution made by different units of the Regiment in their services to the country.
The War Memorial was built to remember 376 martyrs and was first inaugurated in 1953 by Assam Chief Minister Bishnuram Medhi.
Governor V Shanmuganathan later unveiled the platinum jubilee plague and also released the third volume of the history book titled, 'The Indomitable Rhino Warriors of India's North-East - History Of The Assam Regiment', in presence of Lieutenant General Subrata Saha and Lieutenant General J R Mukherjee.
The Regiment was primarily raised to quell enemy aggression and defend a crucial part of the eastern borders of India, Defence PRO Group Captain Amit Mahajan said.
