Coast Guard Air Station completes 25 yr of service
Press Trust of India Chennai Coast Guard helicopter CG808 was formally inducted to the Coast Guard Air Station here, engaged in aerial surveillance of eastern coast and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Inspector General of Coast Guard (Eastern Region) S P Sharma formally inducted the helicopter at a function to mark the silver jubilee of the air station.
Since its inception on April 26, 1991, the air station has completed more than 45,000 hours of flying and has saved over 2,000 human lives, it said.
The Coast Guard has ensured safety and security in the Eastern region besides the Dornier and helicopters based at the Air Station have been providing surveillance to the eastern region.
Besides providing surveillance the team from Air Station was engaged in rescue and relief efforts on various occasions including during the post cyclone off Odisha coast in 2002, the tsunami in 2004, the Hud Hud off Andhra Pradesh coast in 2013 and in during floods in December, it said.
