Coast Guard interceptor boat commissioned

: An indigenously built interceptor boat, capable of undertaking multifarious tasks such as close coast surveillance, was today commissioned into the Coast Guard at the deep water port here.

ICGS C-438 is the second among 18 in the series of interceptor boats designed and built indigenously.

Andhra Pradesh DGP M Malakondaiah launched the boat in the presence of Coast Guard Inspector General (East region) Rajan Bargotra and other officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Malakondaiah said highest preparedness was required to protect the coast through surveillance in view of the changing situations.

"The introduction of interceptor boat shows our capability in handling security aspects in sea coast, rescue operations and in pollution control measures," he added.

He further said the Indian Coast Guard is the 4th largest in the world, equipped with necessary responsive mechanism and was showing efficiency in all aspects.

Bargotra said ICGS C-438 is capable of undertaking multifarious tasks such as close coast surveillance"and is fitted with state-of-the-art communication equipment.
