Coast Guard rescues chief officer of merchant tanker

The Indian Coast Guard today evacuated the chief officer of a vessel anchored off Mumbai after he sustained shoulder dislocation and fracture.
"The CG team rescued Gurav Gupta, chief officer of the vessel MT Pristine PV which was anchored off Mumbai," said a Coast Guard release.
According to the release, the rough weather restricted the shipping movements, so the merchant tanker's agent contacted the Coast Guard Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Mumbai.
"Responding to the situation, Coast Guard Air Squadron 842 was tasked, the patient was flown to INS Shikra at Colaba and subsequently handed over to the ship's agent," the release added.

This is the second rescue operation off Mumbai coast in past 24 hours. In the morning the Navy and Coast Guard had rescued 14 crew-members from a sinking cement-carrying ship which sank 75 nautical miles off Mumbai.
