Indian Coast Guard today rescued three fishermen who were stranded in the sea after the engine of their boat failed about 15 nautical miles off the Ponnani coast.
The fishermen from Tanur Nagaram in Malappuram district were resucued by ICG ship C-404, which had joined the ICG station, Beypore, to safeguard the Malabar Coast in December 2013, an ICG release said here today.
The fishing boat had left Tanur Nagaram fishing harbour on December 31 for fishing and the engine of the boat failed in mid-sea today, it said.
The Coast Guard's assistance was sought and the ICG station Beypore coordinated the search plan and diverted ICGS C-404 on routine patrol in the Malabar coast.
A coast guard aircraft from Kochi was also deployed. The boat was traced and all the three fishermen in the boat were rescued, it said.
ICGS C-404 towed the boat to Ponnani harbour and later handed over the boat to the owner, the release said.
