Coast Guard searching for missing fisherman
Press Trust of India Mangaluru : A Coast Guard ship from Mangaluru is searching for a missing fisherman who was on board a gillnet boat which sank near Netrani island off Bhatkal on August 3.
Manjunath Karvi (35), was in 'Guru Anugraha' the fishing boat which left Mavinkura Bunder at 8.30 AM had sunk 15 km southwest of Bhatkal, a release here said.
Seven out of eight fishermen on board were rescued by fishermen in other local boats nearby.
Another Coast Guard ship from Goa has also been alerted to keep a sharp lookout for the missing fisherman, the release said.
The Coast Guard has advised fishermen to check weather forecasts before proceeding to sea as conditions are presently rough and high speed winds accompanied by squalls and heavy rainfall were frequent.
The release also advised fishermen to operate in pairs or groups and to carry Distress Alerting Transmitters, radio communication equipment, life saving appliances, documents of boats and biometric identity cards, additional mobile phones, batteries, temporary repair kits, first aid kit, extra fuel and ration, flashlights with additional batteries and necessary medicines.
