Cocaine worth about Rs 2.40 crore was seized from a Portuguese national at the airport here, officials said today.
Personnel from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence and Narcotics Control Bureau, acting on a tip-off, intercepted the foreigner upon his arrival from Sao Paulo, Brazil, yesterday.
A search revealed that he was carrying three kg of cocaine concealed in an electrical appliance, an official press release said.
On interrogation, the accused said the drug was handed over to him by an associate in Brazil. The narcotic was meant for a person in Chennai, it said.
The Portuguese national was arrested under the provisions of NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act, 1985 and later remanded to judicial custody, the release said.
The officials did not disclose the identity of the arrested foreigner.
