Coimbatore building gets green certification from USGBC

A building, housing an IT company here has been certified by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) as the second highest ranking green building in the world.
The President and CEO of the Council, Mahesh Ramanujam, who was here to certify the "Sierra ODC" e-Facility building, told reporters that the green building concept, which is safe and healthy, is fast catching up in India.
The GBCI, certifying body for all LEED projects worldwide, has so far certified 650 buildings in India out of 2,500 buildings in the pipeline, with 1.17 billion squarefeet, he said.
The building bagged the Leed Platinum certificate after scoring 103 out of 110 points.
Globally, 38,000 of 90,000 green buildings have already been certified in 164 countries, he noted.
On the criteria for ranking, Mahesh said, energy and water saving, style selection and materials used for construction are some of the parameters taken into account for ranking.
Sierra ODC Managing Director, Giridhar said e-Facility has been designed and constructed to be one of the greenest buildings in the entire world.
