Cold wave conditions intensify in most parts of HP

Intense cold wave conditions persisted in most parts of Himachal Pradesh as the minimum temperatures dropped marginally and sky remained partially overcast in the state capital and adjoining areas.
The high altitude tribal areas reeled under biting cold wave conditions with the minimum temperatures ranging between minus 14 degrees Celsius and minus 20 degrees Celsius, while Keylong and Kalpa in tribal Lahaul and Spiti and Kinnaur districts recorded a low of minus 4.1 degrees Celsius and minus 1 degrees Celsius.
Bhuntar reeled under piercing cold wave with a low of minus 0.6 degrees Celsius, followed by Sundernagar minus 0.2 degrees Celsius, Solan 0.5 degrees Celsius, Una 4 degrees Celsius, Shimla 4.3 degrees Celsius, Palampur 4.5 degrees Celsius, Nahan 6.2 degrees Celsius and Dharamsala 7.4 degrees Celsius.
However, day temperatures increased marginally and Una was the hottest in the region with a high of 24.5 degrees Celsius, while Sundernagarand Bhuntar recorded maximum temperatures at 22.8 degrees Celsius and 21 degrees Celsius, followed by Nahan and Solan 19.5 degrees Celsius, Dharamshala17.8 degrees Celsius.
Thick ground frost occurred at many places in the mid and higher hills.
The local MeT office has forecast dry weather in the state over the next five days till January 22 and rains, thunderstorm or snow in the lower, mid and higher hills from January 23.
