Residents in Union Territory of Chandigarh braved cold winds throughout the day as temperature plummeted to 10.5 degrees Celsius. Maximum temperature here was recorded nine notches below normal, MeT Department said.
Severe cold wave swept across other places in the two states. Ambala recorded a high of 11.8 deg C, seven notches below normal while Bhiwani registered a maximum of 15.4 deg C. Hisar registered a high of 14.3 deg C, seven notches below normal.
Patiala's maximum settled at 12.6 deg C, six notches below normal. Amritsar's had maximum of 15.3 deg C, four degrees below normal while Ludhiana recorded Mercury at 13.1 deg C.
Chandigarh's minimum temperature settled at 7.8 deg C, two notches above normal while Ambala registered a low of 8.3 deg C.

Hisar (8 deg C), Karnal (7.2 deg C) and Bhiwani (7.6 deg C) also recorded above normal minimums while Narnaul registered a low of 4.5 deg C.
Ludhiana and Patiala in Punjab recorded respective minimum temperatures of 8 deg C and 8.8 deg C.
Amritsar's low of 4.6 deg C was also well above the normal range.
