Cold wave conditions persist in Punjab, Haryana

Cold wave conditions continued to grip most parts of Punjab and Haryana with sporadic fog disrupting rail services.
With foggy weather conditions prevailing in some parts, Unchahar Express train between Allahabad and Chandigarh was running late by over eight hours while Lucknow-Chandigarh Express was behind schedule by more than an hour.
Amid bone chilling conditions, Amritsar in Punjab was the coldest place recording a minimum of 1.4 degrees Celsius, less than four notches from normal, MeT department report said today.
Among other places in the state, Ludhiana and Patiala recorded their lows at 5.1 degrees Celsius and 5.6 degrees Celsius, up to three notches below normal.
In neighbouring Haryana, Karnal and Narnaul braved cold weather at 2 degrees Celsius each, down by up to six degrees from normal, as per the MeT report.
Minimum temperatures of Ambala, Hisar and Bhiwani settled at 6.4 degrees Celsius, 3.8 degrees Celsius and 5.2 degrees Celsius respectively.
Union Territory Chandigarh, which saw bright sunshine in the morning, had a low of 6.7 degrees Celsius, up by one notch from normal, the weatherman said.
However, flights from here to various destinations were running as per schedule.
