Cold wave grips Saurashtra and Kutch; 3 perish

The temperature dipped below seven degrees Celsius in the region today.

Two labourers were charred and seven others sustained burn injuries in Gandhidham town of Kutch district due to the fire lit to warm themselves, police said.

The nine labourers had sprinkled some inflammable chemical last night after which the fire suddenly increased in intensity.

Laxman Yadav and Shambhu Shaku suffered severe burn injuries and later succumbed in a nearby hospital while the seven others were admitted to hospital.

An unidentified old man was found dead near Bhavnagar area of the city this morning and police suspect that he might have died of cold.

Naliya recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 4.7 degrees Celsius while Junagadh city registered 6.2 degrees Celsius followed by Rajkot at 7.2 degrees Celsius.
