Cold wave intensifies in HP

The tribal areas reeled under piercing cold wave conditions as minimum temperature dipped by few notches and stayed between minus 10 and minus 17 degrees Celsius in high altitude areas, Met office sources said.

Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti recorded minimum temperature at minus 8.6 degree Celsius, three degree below normal while the Kalpa in adjoining tribal district of Kinnaur recorded a low of minus 3.2 degree, followed by Manali minus 2 degree, Bhuntar and Solan 2.2 degree, Sundernagar 3.1 degree, Mandi 5. 7 degree and Shimla 4.2 degree C.

The day temperatures remained steady with Una recording the highest temperature at 22.6 degree Celsius while Solan and Dharamsala had a high of 21.5 and 20.6 degree respectively, followed by Sundernagar 20.1 degree, Nahan 17.4 degree, Bhunter 17.2 degree, Shimla 14.8 degree and Kalpa 7.0 degree, two degrees below normal.

The local MeT office has predicted isolated rains and snow at some places in mid and higher hills in the next 24 hours while the weather would remain dry after December 18.
