The Collector has directed district health officer Dr B S Sonawane to carry out a detailed investigation into the allegation of medical negligence when the 13-year-old tribal girl with a snake bite was admitted to a hospital leading to her death, and submit a detailed report to him, sources said.
A delegation of local political leaders and social workers had yesterday submitted a memorandum to the Collector complaining about the lethargy of the medical staff and non availability of medicines against snake bite in district hospitals, leading to the death of the girl, they said.
Kalyani Bhoir, an VIII standard student from Alonde of Vikramgadh taluka in Thane district, was picking mangoes in the courtyard of her house on May 28, when a snake bit her.
She was rushed to a local hospital at Wada, where allegedly no senior dcotor was present and the girl was treated by trainees.
Later, the family was asked to take her to a hospital in Bhiwandi, but since the parents did not get proper response there, they took her to Thane Civil Hospital. The girl died on way to the hospital, sources said.
