The vandalising of Mayawati's statue in Lucknow had yesterday triggered off violence in the district. A mob had damaged several vehicles and set ablaze two tankers and a state roadways bus last night.
Amin Raj Bahadur, a collectorate employee, was sent to Laxmi Nagar area by the tehsildar to persuade the mob to stop violence. He, however, was arrested in the melee despite identifying himself as a government official.
"The erring Station House Officer should be suspended for arresting a government employee on duty," Patron of UP Ministerial Employees Federation (Mathura unit) R D Sharma demanded.
Bahadur was released in the afternoon today but his agitating colleagues said their protest will continue until the SHO is suspended.
