The city crime branch registered a case of ragging against the second year students and also the principal, Dr R S Kumar, for not taking appropriate action under various sections of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Ragging Act, police said.
The case was registered following a complaint by Mohammed Ajmal, a first year automobile engineering student of Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT).
He had complained that the seven second year students had objected to him coming in car, as they were using two-wheelers, police said.
Instead of taking action against the seniors, the college issued suspension notice against him. In the complaint, Ajmal said he had filed it to seek justice.
When contacted, KCT management officials said the principal had taken stringent action against 12 students for the incident. Ajmal used to drive the car in a rash and negligent manner and the students had cautioned him to not do so on the campus, they said.
