News of Diego Tabares' death came as the FARC was initiating a unilateral ceasefire, its second since the start of peace talks in Havana in November 2012.
Tabares, head of a logistics and financing cell for the FARC, was killed over the weekend in a police action in the southwestern Colombian department of Cauca, the National Police said. Two other people were arrested.
Police said Tabares was wanted for a May 2012 car bombing in Bogota targeting former Interior Minister Fernando Londono. Londono survived the attack but his driver was killed.
