Comedy drama festival commences in Srinagar

State Governor N N Vohra inaugurated the comedy festival at SKICC here this evening, an official spokesman said.

The Governor also released a book 'Television Production Takneek Aur Tarseel' by Ashok Jailkhani, Additional Director General, Doordarshan, on this occasion.

The Comedy Drama Festival includes plays in Kashmiri, Urdu, Dogri and Ladakhi, will depict the glorious cultural heritage of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions, the spokesman said.

He said these plays have been written and directed by well known writers and theatre personalities.

The Governor said Television, Radio, Theatre and other forms of mass media are very powerful means to create awareness among the people about the various development and welfare schemes launched by the Government, which go a long way in hastening the development process and promoting the welfare of the people at large.

He said through the visual media even semi literate and uneducated persons living in the remote areas can get informed about the programmes and schemes being implemented for their welfare.

Vohra said that involving the common people in planning for their development contributes to evolving relevant welfare programmes.

He said well considered communication strategies can help the policy planners and administrators to secure the best possible results through the implementation of various human development programmes.

The Governor suggested setting up a Cultural Centre in the State which shall remain active throughout the year, organizing drama and art festivals so that the artistic talents of the budding artists from each of the three regions of the State are groomed.
