'Comedy of Errors' adapted in Assamese film 'Local Kung Fu 2'

William Shakespeare's 'Comedy of Errors', which has been adapted in innumerable films across the world, has inspired young director Kenny Deori Basumatary to make his second Assamese feature film "Local Kung Fu 2".
The sequel, which is a martial arts comedy and has been made as a sequel of Basumatary's first film of the same name, will hit the screens tomorrow.
"It is very difficult to make a sequel, especially when the previous film has already set a benchmark. So instead of trying to extend the previous story, we prepared a completely new story for 'Local Kung Fu 2'," said Mumbai-based Basumatary, who has produced the film with BP Deori.

The first ever sequel of an Assamese film -- 'Local Kung Fu 2' is about two pairs of twins, who get separated at birth, the director said.
"One pair of twins stays in Guwahati and the other stays in Tezpur. The pair in Guwahati knows martial arts, but the pair in Tezpur doesn't. After a series of events, the pair from Guwahati ends up in Tezpur and that is when the confusion begins," said Basumatary, who is playing the lead role with Utkal Hazowary.
The film, made at a cost of Rs 35 lakh, also recognises the LGBT community, albeit in a humourous way.

The film will also release in other parts of North East, including Dimapur, Naharlagun, Itnagar, Shillong and Agartala.

"We will also release the film nationally. This will happen 3-4 months later," said Basumatary, who acted in a couple of Bollywood films such as "Mary Kom" and "Shanghai".
He mentioned that apart from the producers' capital, a crowd funding drive was conducted to raise money for the production.
"It is worth mentioning that the crowdfunding campaign started by the "Local Kung Fu 2" team on Wishberry.In had raised a total sum of Rs 8,86,081 from 478 backers, closing with a successful 111 per cent of the target amount," Basumatary added.
