A red balloon will afloat atop the Shimla Municipal Corporation building on the ridge, signalling the start of the ice skating carnival, organisers said.
A trial run was held this morning but it was not fully successful owing to the cloudy weather, they said.
The organisers hoped the regular sessions would commence tomorrow.
Ice skating has become a favourite sports during winters for locals and tourists alike, says Madan Sharma, an ace skater of yesteryears.
The membership of ice skating club has swollen after independence and it is no longer a monopoly of rich and elite classes.
The club is run by an elected body and elections are held annually.
