Commercial tax collection in Assam rose by 12 per cent

The commercial tax collection in Assam has increased by 12 per cent to Rs 5,428.29 crore between April and December last year, state Assembly was informed today.
Presenting the state's interim Budget for 2014-2015, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said: "The provisional collection up to December 2013 stood at Rs 5,428.29 crore as against Rs 4,854.79 crore corresponding to the same period of last year, showing a growth rate of 12 per cent."
"By 31st March 2014, this growth rate is expected to cross 15 per cent," he said.
Gogoi, who is also the state Finance Minister, further said Rs 7,050.56 crore was collected as commercial tax revenue during 2012-13 as against Rs 6,604.31 crore in 2011-12, registering a growth of 7 per cent.
Besides, the excise revenue collection in this fiscal till November 2013 stood at Rs 379.75 crore. A sum of Rs 279.38 crore sales tax was collected on liquor in the same period.
