The Vigilance department arrested two officials, a commercial tax department deputy commissioner and a assistant sub-inspector of police, in Khagaria and West Champaran districts of Bihar on Thursday, officials said.
In Khagaria, Commercial tax department deputy commissioner Shashikant Chaturvedi was arrested at his Officers Colony residence while taking a bribe of Rs one lakh from one Rahul Kumar, DySP (Vigilance) Gopal Paswan said.
He said Kumar had complained that Chaturvedi had demanded a bribe of Rs two lakh for manipulating his tax liabilities following which a trap was laid down wherein the official was asked to accept Rs one lakh as the "first instalment".
Assistant sub-inspector of police Santosh Kumar Ram, posted in Shikarpur police station of West Champaran, was nabbed while taking a bribe of Rs 40,000 from a woman Janaki Devi.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (Vigilance) P N Singh, a trap was laid for Ram after Janaki Devi lodged a complaint that the ASI had demanded a bribe for helping her out in a property dispute case.
