Delhi Police's Vigilance Branch has stumbled upon an alleged nexus between traffic police and commercial vehicle operators, who use specific stickers to avoid prosecution.
Operators issue stickers having lines like 'Hare Ram Hare Krishna', 'Radhe Shyam' and 'Om Sai Ram' to truck and auto-rickshaw drivers, plying in the city and then inform the traffic policemen that vehicles with these stickers are not to be 'disturbed'.
"The auto-rickshaw and the truck drivers who are plying in the national capital and enter the city late night use these stickers. Even if there are any violations by these vehicles, the traffic police identifies them with these stickers and does not challan them," said a senior police official of the Vigilance Unit.
The stickers are pasted on the windshield of the vehicles so that traffic policemen can identify them, he said.
It has also come to fore that maximum number of complaints received at the Vigilance Branch were those against the Delhi Traffic Police personnel.
The official said, the unit was now conducting checks to identify the traffic police policemen who sit inside the truck and provide them entry into Delhi from border areas and charge money in lieu of the "favour".
"Surprise checks would be conducted to identify such vehicles and the role of police officers also be examined and action would be taken," he said.
