The state government has recently passed orders and cleared all formalities for formation of the commission in line with the national commission, sources said.
Eminent social worker and women leader of ruling CPI(M), Rupa Ganguli, was appointed as the first chairperson of the commission, which would look into the welfare of distressed children, child labourers and children living in the camps of displaced communities.
It would work according to the Child Labour (Protection and Regulation) Act, 1986, they said.
The displaced Reangs had taken shelter in six evacuee camps in Kanchanpur subdivision of North district since 1997 following ethnic conflicts with the Mizos.
