Committee set up for integration of sports in higher edu: Govt

As part of its consultations on New Education Policy, the Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry has set up a committee for integration of sports in higher education, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.
The information was provided by HRD Minister Smriti Irani in a written reply to a question in the House.
The terms of reference of the Committee include charting out a blueprint for the integration of sports within the University framework, recommending the administrative structure required to govern the process of integration, identifying priority areas of sports infrastructure including the choice of specific sports and creating necessary partnerships with internationally-acclaimed universities, she said.
In a written reply to another question, Irani also said that 5,128 recommendations were made for admission to Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) schools in 2015-16.
During the academic session 2015-16, the minister said, "5,128 recommendations were made by Chairperson, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) based on requests received from various section of the society including Members of Parliament."
She added that all the children so recommended were not required to submit the proof of living below the poverty line, since it was not a necessary condition for admission to these schools.
