Committee visits villages to inquire complaints against cement

A committee set up by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to inquire into the complaints against a cement factory here today visited the surrounding villages to assess the "damage" done to roads and environment by the movement of vehicles of the factory.
The residents of about dozen villages had met the Chief Minister during Sangat Darshan programme last week and told him that overloaded trucks of cement factory had allegedly damaged the link roads and also caused heavy pollution in the area.
The committee, headed by S S Chatwal Chairman Punjab Pollution Control Board today visited a number of villages and met the Panchayats of different villages including Chandpur, Dakala, balawalpur, Alampur, Katli, Malikpur.
The team also comprised of Karnesh Sharma Deputy Commissioner Rupnagar, Babu Ram Member Secretary Pollution Control Board, Parkash Singh Chief Engineer Panchayati Raj, Kurnesh Garg, Chief Engineer Pollution Control Board and others.
The villagers told the committee members that due to heavy pollution, people were suffering from breathing and skin problems.
The polluted water of factory is passing through shamlat land of Miani village, they complained.
