Seven persons have been arrested.

Mohammad Arif, resident of Bholakpur, was assaulted by miscreants near a temple at Kavadiguda at around 9 PM yesterday. Subsequently, local youths from both communities gathered in large number and attacked each other with stones, police said.

Six persons, including Central Zone Deputy Commissioner of Police Tarun Joshi and a Sub Inspector, were injured and at least six vehicles including state-run RTC buses damaged in the violence.

Police claimed that the situation was brought under control within one hour, however, some reports said the stone-pelting continued till early morning.

Prohibitory orders under section 144 of CrPC, restricting movement in the area for twenty-four hours, were imposed in Musheerabad at 6 this morning.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma said the situation was now under control, and peace had returned.

According to police, the trouble started when some locals alleged that Arif was taking a bull to slaughter house forcibly, while he claimed it was his animal.
