Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal today told a group of weavers in Varanasi that "communalism is more dangerous and harmful than corruption".
Kejriwal, who will take on BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi from the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat, attended a gathering of around 2,000 weavers at Pilikothi area of the city late this evening.
During the meeting Kejriwal told the weavers that "communalism is even more dangerous and harmful than corruption", and appealed to them to vote for his party to remove both menaces.
One of the weavers, Atiq Ansari, asked the AAP chief to take up the cause of tens and thousands of "hapless" weavers of the city, who are starving and suffering from severe financial crisis.
The weavers also asked him to work for improving the city's basic problems like poor condition of roads, traffic woes and erratic supply of electricity and water.
The AAP chief also met Shahare Mufti-E-Benaras Maulana Abdul Batin Nomani in the evening.
Earlier in the day, Kejriwal addressed a rally at Benia Bagh in the central part of the city, where he announced his decision to contest against Modi.
