Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa today demanded that the sufferers of terrorism in the state should be extended similar relief as to the victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
The proposal to give Rs 5 lakh each to the kin of victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, triggered after assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, has been approved by the Centre on Wednesday night.
He demanded that the approximately 33,000 terrorism victims should be compensated in equal terms to the relief amount announced by the Modi Government to the riot victims.
In a statement here, Bajwa said thousands of innocent families suffered during the more than a decade long violence in Punjab.
He pointed out that thousands of people in Punjab had to migrate either to other states or from villages to the cities.
"These families suffered at every level," he added.
Bajwa said it was high time that both the state and the central governments also included such victims in the package finalised for the victims of 1984 violence.
