Compensation for death caused by wild animals doubled

The compensation given in the state in case of deaths or injuries caused by wild animals has been doubled and deaths due to snakebite have been added in the list where an ex-gratia is to be paid.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the state wildlife board chaired by Chief Minister Harish Rawat.
The compensation to be given in case of a death caused by a wild animal will be Rs 6 lakh in place of Rs 3 lakh, those seriously injured in such attacks will get a compensation of Rs one lakh in place of Rs 50,000 and those who lose a limb a compensation of Rs 4 lakh instead of Rs 2 lakh, an official release here said.
For the death of livestock in a conflict with wild animals, the compensation amount now will be Rs 30,000 for the death of a cow and Rs 80,000 for the death of a horse, it said.
An ex gratia will also be paid in case of deaths due to snakebites, it said.
A compensation of Rs 50,000 will be paid for destruction of per acre of a sugarcane field by wild animals and Rs 30,000 for per acre of paddy and wheat fields destroyed.
Similarly a compensation of Rs one lakh will be paid for every pucca house destroyed in a wildlife attack and Rs 50,000 for a mud and thatch house.
