Compensation to Rajasthani women, kids paid: TN govt to HC
Press Trust of India Chennai Tamil Nadu government today informed the Madras High Court that it has complied with the court order and paid a compensation of Rs three lakh each to two Rajasthani women and two minor girls, who were sexually abused by police in Hosur last year.
During the previous hearing of the matter, a bench comprising, Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice M.M. Sundresh, had taken exception to the act of the Additional Secretary of the Public Department in reducing the compensation and warned of contempt proceedings if the amount was not paid as directed by the court.
When the matter came up today, the Government Pleader made a submission that the amount had been paid as per the January 6 orders of the court.
The women and children, selling plastic ware at Hosur bus stand, were picked up by police on October 8 2014, taken to the police control room under the pretext of questioning and sexually abused.
