"In a democratic country, he is free to complain against the President. I fully support that. That is my point. I prefer that rather than using rods. That is what I am trying to protect," Narayanan told reporters.
Karat yesterday had shot off a letter to President Pranab Mukherjee complaining against Narayanan for terming the attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Finance minister Amit Mitra in Delhi on April 9 as premeditated and asking for an apology from the CPI(M) politburo.
The governor had yesterday issued a statement and said he had been a student of Communism for over six decades and was well aware of the functioning of the politburo.
