An offence was registered against a police officer for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from the complainant, ACB officials said today.
According to the complaint filed with the Thane Anti-corruption Bureau, sub-inspector attached to the Naupada police station Jayant Madhukar Patil allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 4 lakh in March and later on again in April, for not registering a case against the complainant in a cheating case, superintendent of police, ACB Thane, Srinivas Ghatge told PTI.
Later, after negotiation, Patil zeroed on Rs 2 lakh for doing the favour to the complainant, following which, the complainant filed a case with the ACB office.
A case was registered against the sub-inspector today under section 7 (public servant taking gratification other than legal remuneration in respect of an official act) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, the SP said.
Further investigations into the case were on, Ghatge said, adding, no arrest was made so far.
