Complete ban on carrying weapons, firearms during election: Kangra DC

The deputy commissioner of Kangra on Wednesday ordered complete ban on carrying weapons and firearms in the district till the completion of the Lok Sabha polls and directed people to deposit their arms with the administration for the period.

According to the order, arms holders have been asked to deposit their weapons and ammunition in the nearest police station.

"Those who disregard the order will be treated as per law. However, this order will not apply to officials of army, paramilitary forces, home guards and police personnel.

"Apart from this, members of the National Rifle Association participating in various sporting events will also be exempted," Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Kumar said.

District-level nodal officers have been appointed for monitoring production, storage and distribution of liquor and for monitoring raids in cases of illegal liquor, he said.

Government employees are prohibited from participating in any election campaign. If they are found disobeying the orders, strict disciplinary and legal proceeding would be brought initiated against him/her under the relevant election laws, the deputy commissioner said.

Polling for four Lok Sabha seats in Himachal Pradesh will be held in the seventh and final phase on May 19.
