A decision to this effect was taken at a cabinet meeting presided by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

"We have decided to implement information and communication technology scheme in our schools. The implementation of the scheme will go a long way in making the students more and more computer literate," Dikshit said.

The government has decided to partner Telecommunications Consultants India Ltd (TCIL) on Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis.

Computer education programme was started in August 2000 in 115 schools by the government and later it was extended to 727 government schools and 161 government-aided schools.

Now, the government has decided to set up computer labs for all government schools and aided schools for students from 6th to 12th standard.
