Confidence bldng exercise on among people along borders with

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki said the state government has been making efforts to build confidence among the people of the state residing along the border areas as well as in neighbouring Assam and bring back normalcy in the affected areas.
Responding to question in the Assembly yesterday on the January 29 incident at Tarasso where 15 CPI(ML) activists were killed and the subsequent economic blockade, Tuki said the state government had taken up the matter with the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to set up an independent inquiry in the incident.
Besides, the matter has been taken up with the government of Assam to maintain status quo in the boundary areas till finalisation of the matter by the Supreme Court.

"To control the situation, the state government has also deployed two companies of IRBN and ITBP forces in the area," Tuki said.
He also appraised the House that the MHA has been approached to deploy paramilitary forces in the disputed areas and along the National Highway. The local Boundary Commission was also taking action in the matter, he added.
To a supplementary on the ex-gratia payment given by the state government to the next of kin of the deceased and to the injured in the violence, Tuki said the government had condemned the incident, and the ex-gratia payment was provided as a good will gesture and on humanity ground.

He further said the economic blockade was withdrawn because of the state government's intervention and initiative to talk with the agitating associations in Assam and he appreciated the role of the media and youth organisations in convincing the people to calm down the situation.
He however assured to convene an all party meeting if such situation arises in future.
